NextUp : Singapore Deeptech Startup Challenge

Building diversity and inclusion in DeepTech

We all know that more needs to be done to have a vibrant and diverse workforce in  STEM. This is especially true in DeepTech when it comes to under-represented social, educational and gender groups.

  • Tech companies with all-male founding teams receive 93% of the capital invested by VC and account for 85% of deals. 5% of capital goes to mixed teams and only 2% to all-female teams.
  • Only 18% of ICT (Information and communication technology) specialists are women.
  • A person from a lower socio-economic class will have 30% fewer opportunities to enter the digital professions.
  • For their new study, “375 Startupers – Profiles, trends and startupers in their own words” Roland Berger and the French accelerator NUMA found that 81 percent of the start-up entrepreneurs who responded to the poll are male, and just 19 percent are female
  • In 2021, 88% of the total amount raised by startups is captured by 100% male teams
  • All things equal, all-male teams raise approximately €4m more than teams with at least one woman
