France/Atlanta Conference 2020

Every autumn since 2010, we meet for about ten events focused on innovation and exchange. This is the France-Atlanta initiative, an annual event created by the Consulate General of France in Atlanta and Georgia Tech – with the help of partners in the United States and in France.

This initiative aims to promote and encourage innovative cooperation and transatlantic ties uniting the Southeast United States and France.

We are pleased to present the program of the 11th edition of France-Atlanta, which will take place from October 1 to November 10, 2020. In order to comply with local health regulations, all the events of this edition will be virtual.

On October 1, 2020, we will launch this edition with an exceptional evening – including an exchange between Georgia Tech President Ángel Cabrera and the French Embassy’s Ecology, Sustainable Development, Energy and Transportation Advisor Jonathan Gilad. This event has surprises in store and the participation of other special guests. For more information, click here.

Traditionally, France-Atlanta events are divided into four components: science, culture, humanitarian and economic. This year’s edition is notable for the presence of fully cross-cutting events. For example, business leaders will meet with scientific experts and cultural actors for an event on local ecosystems labeled « French Tech » as well as an event on the creative industries of the Southeast United States. In addition, during a two-day symposium, multidisciplinary panels will address the ethical issues raised by artificial intelligence.

Other cultural events organized as part of France-Atlanta 2020 will include an exchange between the executive directors of contemporary art institutions in Atlanta and Toulouse and a series of exchanges on the issue of creation and artistic collaboration between human beings and machines. Finally, members of the MATTERS team will return for a series of workshops on their New MississippiS project.

The economic component will feature discussions on propitious topics, including three days of webinars organized by France’s foreign trade advisors as well as a virtual conversation with Mr. Bruce S. Lavin, MD, MPH of the French company BioSerenity.

As for the humanitarian component, researchers and public health experts will discuss the issue of global and equitable access to vaccines in the covid-19 era. Finally, as part of the Education Series, representatives of local non-governmental organizations will virtually visit the classrooms of several colleges, high schools and universities in the region. These meetings will be an opportunity for students to discover the humanitarian actions carried out in French-speaking countries as well as the professional opportunities related to the knowledge of French.

France-Atlanta 2020 has been made possible thanks to the support of its many partners and the following sponsors: Raymond F. Schinazi & Family Foundation, Jade Fiducial, the French-American Chamber of Commerce – Atlanta, Michelin, TV5Monde and Gravotech.
